Doris Stevens Ellington

Raleigh - Doris Stevens Ellington, 87, died Saturday. A native of WakeCounty, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lena Barbour Stevens. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Cleveland Ellington and brothers David Stevens, James Stevens and his wife, Evelyn.A 1942 graduate of Garner High School, she also graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in business education and mathematics.Mrs. Ellington taught school at Apex High School, Laurel Hill High School in Scotland County, Millbrook High School and 19 years at Fuquay-Varina High School until her retirement in 1976.She coached basket ball at Apex and Millbrook High School for 11 years.She was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church since 1938.Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Garner.Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Fuquay-Varina. Surviving: brother, Louis Stevens and wife, Carolyn of Raleigh; sisters, Betty Jean Sorrell and husband, Ray of Raleigh, Hazel Lee and husband, Dan of Garner, Linda Ingram and husband, Jimmy of Seminole Fl; Stepson, Robert Ellington and wife, Jeanne of Lake Wales Fl.; Step-daughter, Marilyn Adams and husband, Charles of Bradenton Fl.; step-grandchildren Jonathon Ellington, Scott Adams, and Monica Adams Strickland; Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
