Dorothy "Dot" Stephens Mabrey

RALEIGH - Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Stephens Mabrey, 92, died at her home in Raleigh on August 8, 2021. She was born April 19, 1929 also at home, in Cary, NC to the late James Paul and Lydia Underwood Stephens. Dot graduated Cary High School in 1947 and made her home in Raleigh for the last 71 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and friend, quietly serving others with love and compassion never wanting attention or recognition. She was an active and loyal member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 65 years where she had many life-long friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by Walter Richard Mabrey, her husband of 52 years, son James Stephens Mabrey, and special friend James Philip Stone. She is survived by her son, Walter Richard (Rick) Mabrey Jr. and wife Dwan, daughter Melanie Mabrey and husband Thomas Smith all of Raleigh, grandchildren Elizabeth Wofford (Joey) of Raleigh and Ryan Mabrey (Kara) of Smyrna, GA, and 5 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on August 11th at 2:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church (Mask required for visitation and service). Private burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
