Dottie earned her Master’s degree in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education. In addition to her daily responsibilities, Dottie managed to write and orchestrate inspiring outdoor Christmas pageants and Hanging of the Greens celebrations that became traditional. She also created simulation games that proved to be effective teaching tools. Perhaps one of the most important contributions Dottie has made to the local community as a volunteer was serving as a Big Buddy to a young girl participating in the Study Buddy program at Loaves and Fishes Ministry. They have remained forever friends and that young girl has now become Program Director of the organization. Dottie later decided to pursue a PhD degree in Sociology from N.C. State University. While working on this degree, she was hired by First Presbyterian Church in Garner, NC to work with their youth. She also worked with youth in the Korean Presbyterian congregation. Dottie was not only a basketball star, but also an excellent tennis player winning numerous singles and doubles titles. She also directed a state-wide tennis tournament for the purpose of raising money for cancer and heart disease research. Dottie not only provided love and caring to her human friends, family, students and clients. She also was a loyal companion of many furry friends of the rabbit and cat variety. Her domestic rabbits played outside under her watchful eye and one of them let her know when it was time to get off the phone by chewing the cord in two. Her cats found her and were taken in one at a time as if they had applied and been accepted. During the last part of Dottie’s active church life, she and George joined Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church.
