Dorothy Lee Weeks Stephenson

Angier- Dorothy (Dot) Lee Weeks Stephenson, age 89, passed away on Friday January 26, 2018 at Wake Med in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dorothy was born February 28, 1928 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  She was the wife of the late Raeford Stephenson of Raleigh and mother of the late Wanda Lee Stephenson of Asheville, North Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late Katie Estelle Batts (Weeks) Blanford and James L. Weeks of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Dorothy graduated from Benvenue High School in Rocky Mount, and subsequently moved to Raleigh where she attended Kings Business College.  She lived in Raleigh and Angier for many years.  She was a stay-at-home mother to her children during their early years and later worked for the North Carolina Department of Disability Determination Services.  She was an active member of Lighthouse Baptist Church of Benson, North Carolina. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Stephenson Burckhalter (Tom) of Lady’s Island, South Carolina; son, Timothy Rae Stephenson (Rita) of Courtland, Virginia; and sister, Thelma Weeks Roberts of Wilmington, North Carolina.  She had six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. “Dot” was a devoted Christian, loving mother, and engaging personality. She had a self-reliant, independent spirit that enabled her to stay in her home, pay her bills, and care for herself until the day of her passing. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Melanie at Comfort Keepers, as well as all the friends and family who helped her in so many ways. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 2 from 6 - 8 pm at Bryan Lee Funeral home, 300 E. McIver Street, in Angier.  A service will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 am at the Raleigh Memorial Park Chapel, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, North Carolina with burial to follow. Reverend Dr. Will G. Barnes officiating.
