Dorothy Watson Page left this earthly life and is now in the arms of Jesus, celebrating being reunited with her husband Matthew, parents, and all her brothers and sisters. The youngest of 12 children, Dorothy grew up surrounded by love, music, family, and hard work on a farm in Granville County, North Carolina. Her parents were James Watson and Etta Mae Currin Watson. She excelled in high school serving on the school newspaper as editor and in the arts. She met the love of her life, William Matthew Page, while in high school and they were married in 1951. She is the last of her generation in our family and will be remembered and cherished by all of us she leaves behind.
Dorothy and Matthew worked hard to build the American Dream. Together, they built a successful textile business with Matthew overseeing the manufacturing and sales and Dorothy as the business manager. Dorothy was clever in both life and business. She was a shrewd business person. Matthew often said Dot kept him in line with his business adventures and expansions. She was creative designing her and her daughter’s clothing. Dorothy took her daughter on shopping trips to New York City and the unique boutiques in what was once Cameron Village. She designed her granddaughter’s ballet costumes along with other outfits. She also had an eye for art. One of her loves was Southern pottery. She enjoyed traveling the United States, Europe, and several trips to Hawaii. She was the story teller in our family. Her stories will live on through her daughter, Pam; her nieces, Brenda, Charlene, Joy, and Glenda along with future generations of our family. Dorothy supported public television, animal rescue groups, the SPCA, Wake County Animal Shelter, the symphony, and the local theatre. She played the piano, danced, and even wrote some music. Dorothy was the epitome of Southern grace, grit, and class, the last of great Southern women.
Dorothy loved her family, her only child, her granddaughter, and great granddaughters, her grand son-in-law, and her son-in-law, Don who is now deceased but adored her and helped care for her during the final years. She also loved and cared for her many dog children throughout the years. She was devoted to her family, sisters, brothers, and many nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish her memory and honor her life daughter Dr. Pam Page Carpenter, granddaughter Heather Bagley, CRNA, and her husband Chris along with great granddaughters Miranda and Morgan along with several grand dogs and great grand dogs.
We would like to thank our cousins and her nieces, Brenda, Glenda, Joy, and Charlene for their visits with her through the years along with their constant love and support for our family.
