Dorothy P. Wilson

Dorothy “Dot” Plummer Wilson, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on January 19, 2015. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Plummer and Virginia Powell Plummer of Hoke County, N.C. Dot served as secretary of Aversboro Elementary School from 1965 until 1978. She was an active member of the Garner United Methodist Church until her health declined, she was a past president of the NC United Methodist Women, a member of the Saints Alive Club, the Literary Ladies Book Club and the Fellowship Sunday School class. She was an advocate for Christ and lived her life setting the example for others. She loved her backyard gardening and time in the mountains relaxing. Family and friends were the joy of her life and she will be deeply missed by all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Ray Wilson, Sr. Survivors include her five sons, Dennis R. Wilson, II (Mavis) of Manchester, GA, Charles Wilson (Vicki) of Greensboro, Ken Wilson (Vicki) of St. Petersburg, FL, Scott Wilson (Peggy) of Apex and Tim Wilson (Laura) of Raleigh;  grandchildren, Tony Wilson, Wanda Wilson, Chris Wilson (Ai), Hal Wilson (Georgia), Leah Wilson, Dennis Wilson;  step-grandchildren, Tory (Drew) Maxwell, Kate (Lee) Banwell and seven great-grandchildren. The family expresses its deepest gratitude for the excellent care, compassion and love provided during Dot’s last years by Brenda Lyons, her husband, Chris Lyons, and Jasmin Crowder. They became part of the Wilson family over the years caring for Dot and Dennis and allowed Dot to stay in the home she so dearly loved. The family also offers special thanks to the attending staff at Transitions LifeCare for their support and care. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Friday January 23, 2015 at Garner United Methodist Church. Visitation will follow immediately afterward in the Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Drive, Garner, NC 27529.
