Dorothy Smith

GARNER- Dorothy Smith, 93, passed away peacefully on, November 5, 2024. She was born in Harnett County, North Carolina, on April 18, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Howard Barbour, and Callie Holmes Barbour.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Coy Smith; brothers, Gene Barbour, and Rev. Larry Barbour; and sisters, Magdalene Young, and Faye Nance, all of whom she loved very dearly.

Dorothy was an exceptional mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. In 1949 she married the love of her life and best friend, Coy Smith, spending 48 memorable years together. She was an avid gardener and was quite fond of the flowers she grew. She also enjoyed assisting her husband with his work on the farm but the thing she was most fond of was her family. Her love and commitment to her family was something to admire and was reflected in all that she did. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends and will always be remembered as a woman of great strength and conviction.

Dorothy is survived by her loving son, Barry Smith (Luana); sisters, Betty Sawyer, and Helen Barbour; grandchildren, Tina West (Richard), and Angie Anzelone (Jimmy); great grandchildren, Rev. Chris West (Melissa), Bradley West, Daniel West, and Hannah Anzelone; and numerous nieces and nephews that Dorothy cherished very dearly.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Mount Herman Christian Church Cemetery, 8925 White Oak Rd, Garner, NC 27529.

Flowers are welcome and may be sent to Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, North Carolina 27529. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to, Mount Herman Christian Church.
