Dorothy Smith Howell

Garner- Dorothy Smith Howell, 82, died Saturday at her residence. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Luby A. and Bessie W. Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Edward Howell, Sr. who died in 2000 and a brother, Marvin Smith of Pikeville. Dot was a charter member of Aversboro Road Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Friday, August 16, 2013 at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. She is survived by daughters; Katrina Casteel and her husband, Dr. Bill Casteel of Dayton, TN and Dawn Paulsen and her husband, Jeff of Garner; son, Rufus Edward Eddie Howell, Jr. of Willow Spring; grandchildren, Chris and David Casteel, Brandon Norris, Dana and Lauren Paulsen and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Norris and Asher Casteel; sister, Lois Parks of Goldsboro and brother, Carlton Smith of Wilson. The family wishes to thank Dots caregivers, Leetrice Dupre and Marcia Nicholas for the care that they showed to our mother during her time of sickness and you will always be vital family members of our family.
