Raleigh- Dorothy Ann Thompson McCallum, 88, died Tuesday evening at Stewart Health Center. She was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Charles Boisfeuillet Thompson, Sr. and Helen Stebbins Thompson. She grew up in Augusta, GA.She received her Bachelors degree from Georgia State College for Women (Milledgeville) and a Masters in Physical Education at Smith College (MA). She taught in the Physical Education Department at the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) before moving to Austin to start a medical library degree at University of Texas. She moved to Nashville to work as a medical librarian at Vanderbilt University and completed her Masters there at Peabody College. She met her husband in Atlanta, GA, where she worked at the Emory University medical library. They were married in 1965, and moved to Raleigh in 1968. She worked as a medical librarian at Rex Hospital until her retirement. She was a longtime active member of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She volunteered for Wake Literacy Council, Meals on Wheels, and served gladly on many committees at West Raleigh and Springmoor. Surviving are her daughter, Ellen Lee McCallum and partner, Barbara Hosler, of Okemos, MI; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert McCraw McCallum; parents; and brothers, Charles Boisfeuillet Thompson, Jr. and Joseph Guyton Thompson.A memorial service will be held Saturday, 3:00 pm at Springmoor Auditorium, 1500 Sawmill Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615.
