Douglas Bennett Clendenin, 71, formally of Bluefield WV, passed away peacefully at home in Clayton NC surrounded by his loving family. He was a hardworking dedicated man in his careers with the mines and railroad. Even more he was a devoted and loving family man with many good friends. Born in Boone County WV, to Bert Clendenin Jr and Betty Bennett. Doug lived and spent most of his life in Bluefield WV. He attended Tennessee Military Academy, finished basic training for the Marine Corps and attended Bluefield College. Doug worked for Amanata Coal Company first as a miner and then a supervisor/Foreman. In 1987 he began a career with Norfolk Southern RR as a locomotive engineer. While working he also completed a Bachelor’s Degree from Bluefield State College. Later in life he went to Mercer County VoTech for his Electrical Certification and earned his Master’s Electricians license through the State of West Virginia. He is Proceeded in death by his mother, Betty Bennett Basham and his father, Bert Clendenin Jr. He is survived by his wife Sylvia; daughter Lori Clendenin-Lowe and her husband Charles of Bluefield WV; stepdaughter Stephanie Johnson and her husband Jamie of Cary NC; stepson Michael Williams and his wife Sarah of Ashland VA; stepdaughter Emily Williams of Dallas TX. Grandchildren Charles T. Chase Lowe, Madeline Charlotte Johnson, Lacy Fraser Williams, Tavin Douglas Williams. Doug wished for a celebration of life to be held at a later time for family and friends to come together in honor of his life. In lieu of any flowers the family would like for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of his name.
