Raleigh - Douglas Williams, 96, died Thursday at his home. A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late James Richard and Valley Pollard Williams. Mr. Williams proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the US Army, 30th Infantry Old Hickory Division. He was a decorated war veteran and the recipient of both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include his daughter, Betty W. Gillis of Garner; son, Bill Williams of Charlotte; grandchildren, Michele Cash of Fuquay-Varina and Doug Gillis of Garner; great-grandchild, Brandy Cash of Fuquay-Varina. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Pattie Buffaloe Williams in 2003. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 pm Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, 4926 Fayetteville Road, Raleigh, NC 27603.
