Durleen Boyd Lindsey, born December 15, 1940, in Pitt County, NC, was called home to be with her precious Lord and Savior on April 21, 2025. Surrounded by loved ones, she passed peacefully in her Garner, NC home of 52 years, resting in her beloved sunroom, where she watched over the birds and blooming garden that she loved so dearly.
Durleen, or "Grandma D," as she was affectionately called, was the daughter of the late Zonnie Eris Boyd and Ruby Dallice Arnold. She was a dedicated nurse for 40 years, graduating with a nursing diploma from, and working at Rex Hospital, before continuing her career at Dorothea Dix Hospital. There, she met and fell in love with her late husband, Donnie Forbes Lindsey, Sr. She later retired from nursing to lovingly care for him during the final years of his life.
Grandma D is also preceded in death by her sister Zula Boyd Rouse and husband Joe, and her brother Zelbert Earl Boyd. She is survived by her children: Donna Lindsey Pleasant and her husband John, Deanna Lindsey Pegram and her husband Kevin, and Donnie Forbes Lindsey, Jr and his wife Karen; her grandchildren Jackson Pleasant and his wife Ericka, Connor Lindsey Jones and her husband Chad, Lindsey Pegram, Kyleigh Pegram, and Lindie Pleasant; her precious great-granddaughter Lennon Pleasant; and her sister-in-law Kathy "Kool" Boyd.
She also leaves behind a wide circle of beloved family and friends whose lives were deeply touched by her kindness, laughter, and selflessness. She adored her friends from Dix, White Lake, bowling, her neighborhood, her church community, and many others. She loved playing cards, Bible study, serving the homebound and widow's group, working in her garden, and spending time at the lake with her family. Her final wish was to enter the Kingdom of Heaven wrapped in the presence of those closest to her, a testament to her unwavering devotion to fiercely love and cherish her family and friends, even in her final days.
Grandma D was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. While the radiant light of Jesus had always shone through her, in her final days, that golden glow became visible. We will miss her dearly, but we are so blessed to have witnessed her grace, learned from her wisdom, and been wrapped in the warmth of her love. She was a reflection of God's love on Earth. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence, until we reunite with her again one day.
