Earl Hampton Gay, 95, of Raleigh went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 17, 2021. He was born December 10, 1925 in Zebulon, NC to the late Irving Proctor Gay and Margaret Alice Glover Gay. Earl was known for his infectious smile, generous heart, and sweet spirit. He was affectionately called “Daddy Earl” by so many who loved him. Earl devoted his life to his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He faithfully served as a member of North Street Baptist Church and New Hope Baptist Church. Earl’s Christian example provided the foundation that supports his family to this day. He was proud to serve his country during World War II as First Scout in the US Army 291st Infantry 75th Division. Going to war at the young age of 18, he fought courageously to preserve our freedoms. After returning from the war, Earl worked 33 years with the US Postal Service. In the 1970’s, he started his own real estate company and later joined Myrick and Company Realtors. He ended his career with Coldwell Banker. After retirement, Earl enjoyed playing golf, spending time with family at Emerald Isle, fishing, traveling, and playing Rook. Earl is survived by his three children, Mike Gay (Debbie), Carolyn Beaver (Tim), and Michelle Pearce (Robert); five grandchildren, Michael Gay, Jr. (Dana), Adam Beaver (Linda), Andrew Beaver (Heather), Morgan Harrington (Clark), and Zach Pearce; five great-grandchildren, Addison Beaver, Aiden Beaver, Avery Beaver, Logan Beaver and Woods Harrington. He is also survived by his brother, Delbert Gay; sister-in-law, Joan Gay; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Ruth B. Gay. He is also preceded in death by his sisters: Ida Rue Perry, Janet Burchette, Louise G. Hauser; and brother Jimmy Gay. A graveside service celebrating his life will be held Sunday, March 21, 2021 at 3:30 PM at Montlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Philip Rabon officiating. For those planning to attend, please wear a face covering and practice social distancing to ensure everyone’s safety. Earl Gay’s body will lie in state at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Triune Holiness Church Building Fund, 137 Smith Lane, Maysville, NC 28555 Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh.
