Edith Stallings Mann

March 19, 1925 — July 31, 2021

Edith was born in Nash County, North Carolina to Ola Ray Strickland Stallings and Robert Pettigrew Stallings. She grew up in the country around the areas of Zebulon, Middlesex and Pilot. After high school, Edith moved to Raleigh and worked at King Drug Company. Shortly after, she met her future husband Charles Franklin Mann and they were married in June of 1947. Her first child, Charles Franklin (Frank) Mann, Jr. was born a couple years later, followed by Dennis, then David. Edith was a housewife and stay at home mother until she saw all 3 of her boys off to school. She then attended Raleigh Beauty School and obtained her cosmetology degree. She started her career at Raleigh Beauty Shop before opening her own shop in her home. Many neighbors and customers became lifelong friends and much fun was had at Edith's Beauty Shop by everyone until her retirement. Edith was very active with her canasta club and also with her Golden Age Senior Group from Lion's Park. Edith performed many roles at Lion's Park including Hospitality committee and the Social committee. She was quick to make coffee and bring snacks and win many of the costume contests throughout the years. She also loved the outings taken by the group, her favorite being the Elvis Impersonator! She was overjoyed that she wound up with his scarf! Edith was quick to step up to help in any way needed in her neighborhood. She was kind, loving and generous to all who knew her and she was known for cooking for others during good and bad times, sharing what she had if something was needed and throwing many showers and parties for brides and babies alike. Later, she would become Mama Mann to all of her granddaughter Melanie's friends for the rest of her life, and she fed all of them through high school and beyond as well. She was quick witted and funny and loved to tell a joke and make people laugh, including herself. She loved being around people and tried to make them happy and smile. She was a true social butterfly. She loved to garden, and had many beautiful flowers and vegetables throughout the years. Edith loved God and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Edith is preceded in death by her husband Charles and her youngest son David, as well as both of her brothers, Robert "Junior" and Bill, and her sisters Ruth and Arlene. She is survived by her sons Frank and Dennis, her granddaughter Melanie and her "baby" sister Helen, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Edith gave others much Joy, just to know her and be around her. She was much loved by many friends and family and will be missed. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." Romans 15:13.
