WILLOW SPRINGS – Mary Edith Vaughan Austin, 91, passed away at her home on Sunday. A native of Wake county, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Vaughan and Hattie Thomas Vaughan. Edith's father, William Thomas Vaughan was the chief of police for the town of Fuquay-Varina in the 1950's and 1960's. During that time he was a integral part of getting the town their first police car. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 31st at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. The burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Fuquay-Varina. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-1:45 PM at the funeral home. Edith is survived by her daughters; Faye Glass of Angier, Lynn Ward-Moore of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Joyce Doane (Al) of Saltville, VA, Ann Baker (Frankie) of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren, Stephanie Hearn (Reuben) of Angier, Wallace Austin (Sherry) of Raleigh, Dallas Austin (Kimberly) of Lillington, Thomas Ward (Helen) of Willow Springs, and Spencer Moore of Fuquay-Varina; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Wheeler of Fuquay-Varina, Patrick Wheeler of Angier, Elisabeth Austin of Raleigh, MacKensie Austin of Raleigh, Lorelei Ward of Willow Springs, and Oliver Ward of Willow Springs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Wallace Austin; son, Nelson Austin; sister, Sara Williams; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Austin.
