Edmond Joseph Poissant

October 23, 1927 — March 8, 2012

October 23, 1927 - March 8, 2012 Raleigh - Edmond Joseph Poissant, 84, of Champlain, NY, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2012 with his family by his side at Wake County Hospice Home. Edmond was born on October 23, 1927 in Mooers Forks, NY and lived most of his life in Champlain, NY, wintering in Raleigh, NC. Edmond served 18 months in the military and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Force in 1947. Edmond was employed as a machinist and quality control inspector at Harris Graphics in Champlain, NY, and at Prim-Hall Enterprises in Beekmantown, NY. He took immense pleasure in working with his hands as a wood worker and gardener, and in the simple joy of a Sunday drive, especially through an autumn forest. You bet the sound of laughter was familiar in the Poissant home, as Edmond often entertained with his charming sense of humor. He was a strong, generous, and altruistic man and loved his family over all things. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeannine (Boire) Poissant, his son Michael Edmond Poissant of Fort Myers, FL, his daughter Sharon Poissant Eckard and son-in-law Tim Eckard of Raleigh, NC, sisters Theresa Conley and Helen Rock, and brother Lawrence Poissant of Plattsburgh, NY, grandchildren Jason and Jessica Poissant of Mexico, NY; Tia and Daniel Poissant of Cary, NC; and Ryan and Lauren Eckard of Raleigh, NC; and great grandchildren Jacob, Allie, and Madison Poissant of Mexico, NY; brothers-in-law Arthur Rock of Plattsburgh, NY and Norman Boire and his wife Gail of Dauphin, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Edmond is predeceased by his parents Eugene Joseph and Rosa (Desjardins) Poissant, and brothers Albert and Homer Poissant. A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Raleigh on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. A memorial mass and burial will be held at a later date at St. Marys Catholic Church in Champlain, NY. The family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh or to your local hospice.
