RALEIGH – Edna King Davenport, 85, died Tuesday at her home. A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late L.O. “Buddy” King and Mary Wall King. She was a lifelong member of Holland’s United Methodist Church where she served as church secretary and youth counselor for many years. A member of the Women’s Civitan Club of Garner, she was retired from the North Carolina National Guard. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Saturday at Holland’s United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, December 7th at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger A. Davenport, Sr. and brother, Dewitt King. Survivors include her daughters, Lynne Davenport Murray and husband, Mike of Wendell and Lisa Davenport Stanley and husband, Clint of Raleigh; son, Roger A. “Bud” Davenport, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Garner and “adopted” daughter and best friend, Sherri Searcy; sister, Polly Umstead of Garner; brother, David King of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Michael Stanley, Jennifer S. Ferguson, Blake Murray, Brooke Murray, Parker Stanley, Karlin Stanley, Roger A. Davenport III “Trey”, Griffin Stanley and Tommy Davenport, as well as 6 great-grandchildren.
