ANGIER – Edna Matthews Hobson, 83, passed away on Tuesday surrounded by her loving family at Universal Healthcare in Lillington. Born in Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Lee Matthews and Mattie Mason Matthews.
Mrs Hobson started her career by courageously traveling to Washington DC and working at the Pentagon. While in DC, her future husband followed her, they married and lived there until the late sixties. She then continued her career as a legal secretary for several attorneys, as well as bookkeeping for her husband’s business. She loved to read, attend bluegrass festivals, and was an excellent cook, especially buttermilk biscuits. She loved her entire family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 25th at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, Angier. The burial will follow at Kennebec Baptist Church Cemetery, Angier. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 23rd at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. The family welcomes visitors at other times at the home of Sandy and Travis Everette.
Edna is survived by her children, Brenda H. Turlington (Johnny) of Coats, Franklin “Frankie” C. Hobson, Jr. (Darlene) of Dunn, Sandra “Sandy” H. Everette (Travis) of Angier; grandchildren, Jonathan Turlington, Amy T. Pope, Jessica Lee, Garrett Lee, Trevor Everette, Seth Everette; great-grandchildren, Cameron Turlington, Madalyn Turlington, Annabelle Turlington, Layla Turlington, Zoe Jane Turlington, Jacob Pope, David Pope, and Sarah Lee; sisters, Pearl M. Bowman of Angier, Alice Faye M. Hurley of Silver Springs, MD, and Linda Raye M. Seale of Angier; brothers, Ronnie L. Matthews of Selma, Robert M. Matthews of Culpepper, VA, Clyde D. Matthews of Knoxville, TN, and James Daniel Matthews of Douglasville, GA; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Franklin “Frank” C. Hobson, Sr.; brother, Gerald L. Matthews.
