Edward Anthony Lavan

Clayton - Edward A. Lavan, 85, passed away on Saturday. Edward A. Lavan (85), entered into eternal rest September 25th, 2021 The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. He was born, April 16th, 1936 in Woodside, New York to his loving parents Edward Lavan and Catherine (Gorman) Lavan. "Eddie" resided in New York (Woodside, Flushing, and Lake Grove) for nearly 70 years before heading south to Leland, North Carolina, until his return to New York in 2019. Eddie attended St. Sebastian School in Woodside, New York and then headed off to graduate from St. Peters College. Eddie worked in New York City at Metropolitan Life for his entire professional career. He took tremendous pride in his work ether and excelled at everything he set out to do. Besides leading a successful career, he was heavily involved in the Fathers Club at Holy Cross High School and was a scout leader. Eddie cherished time with his friends and family, loved watching Notre Dame football, the New York Mets, but most of all he loved to read. He was a history buff, and in his later years began writing short stories. He had the amazing opportunity to marry Marlyn (Roth) Lavan, with whom he always stated he achieved his greatest accomplishments, of which he was the most proud of, his four sons. They remained married for 38 years, until her untimely death in 1998. Eddie was fortunate enough to find love again and married Barbara (Murphy) Lavan until her passing in 2008. The oldest of four children, Eddie was predeceased by his brother Lawrence and his sister Marilyn. He leaves behind his brother Neil and sister-in-law Lorraine Lavan. His children, Edward F, Lavan and his wife Lysa Lavan, Robert P. Lavan, Michael L, Lavan and his wife Mary Lavan, and Thomas N. Lavan and his wife Melissa Lavan. Eddie also had three step children from his second marriage, Dennis Murphy, Brian Murphy, and Michael Murphy. He was also "Grandfather" to twelve grandchildren. Edward James Lavan and his wife Elizabeth, Danny Lavan and his wife Meredith, Kayla Totten and her husband Donielle, David Lavan, Luke Lavan, Christian Lavan, Tessa Lavan, Kate Lavan, Aiden Lavan, Liam Lavan, Olivia Lavan and Madison Lavan. He also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Eleanor Lavan and Willow Lavan. Friends may greet the family at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St. Woodbury Connecticut, on Thursday September 30th 2021 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A mass of christian burial will take place Friday, October 1st 2021 at 10:00am, at St. Teresa Avila Church, 146 Main St. South, Woodbury Connecticut. Burial will follow at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, New York
