Edwin Moore

RALEIGH - Dr. Edwin Gray Moore, Jr., 83, of Raleigh went to his forever home surrounded by his loving family on March 19, 2025, due to complications caused by an accident.

Edwin, known to some as E.G., ED, preacher, pastor, uncle, dad, and paw-paw, was born on January 18, 1942, to Edwin G. Moore, Sr. and Ina Jane Henderson Moore in Randolph County, Alabama. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Nina J. Searcy. God called him to preach in 1970, faithfully serving to that calling for 55 years and pastoring five churches, two of which he helped to started.

He served in many capacities and in many states. Edwin also had a love for the Welsh and the land of Wales. He was the Welsh Director and European Director for the GPA for many years. He was passionate about his life of service to the Lord. Of all his pastimes, Edwin's most cherished was his family. A loving and wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, and son, his love of family and friends was evident to all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Moore; a granddaughter, Deborah Sue Varney; brothers, Jim Moore and his wife, Peggy, Marshall Moore and his wife, Dixie; and by a sister, Thelma Clark and her husband, Hugh.

Edwin is survived by his daughters, Tammy Rothwell (Dan) and Tonia Cavender (Kelly); grandchildren, Jon Daniel, April Franks (Jay), Kim Ramsey (Will), Jessica Cavender, Brandon Cavender; great grandchildren, Matthew Roberts, Bentlee Green, Brooklyn Franks, Bentley Franks, and Kinsley Ramsey; as well as his sister, Gerry Ray (Mack).

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh (831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27604). The funeral will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Ebenezer Community Baptist Church in Raleigh (7808 Ebenezer Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27612). Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dr. Moore's memory be made to Ebenezer Community Baptist Church, 7808 Ebenezer Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27612.
