Elean Margaret Miller Ewert

April 26, 1932 — February 2, 2020

Elean Margaret Miller Ewert, 87, passed peacefully away on Sunday February 2nd. She was married to her late husband Werner “Van” Ewert for sixty two years. She was also preceded in death by her parents Howard and Eleanor Miller and her sister Marlis Miller Martzloff. Elean was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in Burlingame California before moving East with her husband where they lived the majority of their life in Watchung, NJ. However in their retirement years they were residents of Palm Beach, Florida and enjoyed the summer months in Belgrade, Maine. She was a gifted artist who spent many hours sewing, hooking rugs and painting. Elean created various stained glass pieces and taught ceramics for years. In fact many of her protégés continue their love of art and are currently sharing it with the next generation. She was a wonderful homemaker and her ability to care for her husband and children was unmatched. Elean was a devout Presbyterian and was active in Bible Studies, hand bells and numerous other activities. She even took part in a mission trip or two to the Dominican Republic with her husband. In addition they took yearly trips to see the world which included the Holy Land, Europe and China. Elean will be remembered mostly for her warm smile, patient disposition and gentle and grace-filled spirit. She will also be remembered for her jello-mold salad, love of desserts and being “hip” with her grandkids. She is survived by her son Dr. Eric Ewert of Garner and daughter Brenda Jadney of Raleigh as well as her grandson Ryan Ewert of Garner, granddaughters Robbyn Reed with husband Chris of Portland, Maine, Karin Chmelo with husband Jon of Raleigh and Kelsey Ewert of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Last but not least she is survived by her two great-grandsons Griffin Reed and Coleman Chmelo. A celebration of life event will be held later this summer in Belgrade, Maine where numerous friends and family will be able to attend. However the immediate family members sincerely appreciate all your prayers, thoughts and well wishes at this time.
