Eleanor Irene Joiner, 74, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home, Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Irene is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Jay Joiner; daughter and son in law, Amy and Richard McCall, granddaughter, Haley McCall; daughter in law, Christy Joiner, granddaughters, Kylie, Kourtney, and Ashley Joiner; her father and his wife, Roger and Sarah Morgan; her brother, Cliff Morgan and his wife Jodi Sager and nephews, Zack and Elliot Morgan. She is preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Morgan and several other family members and friends that no doubt welcomed her to the reunion party.
Irene started as a receptionist at WRAL-FM and was dubbed “Iron Woman Irene” by morning DJ Bob Inskeep. She soon rose to the position of Operations Manager at Capitol Satellite where she coordinated a team of engineers and an array of local and worldwide broadcasts. She later retired as a Human Resources Manager for a busy publishing company.
Irene was an avid reader and lover of coffee and biscotti. She enjoyed scrapbooking and other crafts and loved cheering for the Carolina Hurricanes and Carolina Panthers. Her most favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She was known as NanaRene to many but simply as Nana to those she loved the most, her grandchildren and granddogs.
A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
