RALEIGH - Elizabeth Hope Shearon Ferneyhough, 87, beloved mother and friend, passed away Monday night. Born December 16, 1928, Hope grew up in Raleigh and attended both Mars Hill College and Wake Forest College. She married Richard “Buddy” Ferneyhough and raised her family while working as a dark field microscopist with the State. Hope enjoyed singing in the church choir, lunching and traveling with her book club, and participating in Meals on Wheels. Her favorite pastimes included exploring roads she’d never been down, singing with friends, and spending time with her family. An avid reader, she always enjoyed learning something new. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 3:00 PM at The Point Church, 3700 Lake Wheeler Rd, Raleigh, NC 27603 (formerly Inwood Baptist Church). Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include her daughters, Rena Marie Ferneyhough of Raleigh and Jeanne Elizabeth Ferneyhough of Cary; son, Richard Ferneyhough, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Vicki of Raleigh; grandchildren, Katie and Tyler Ferneyhough; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ferneyhough and children. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Louis Shearon and Harriett Bennett Shearon; her husband, Richard Ferneyhough, Sr. and her brothers, Jonathan, Kervin, and Emil. The family would like to thank Vicky Gardner and the staff of Carolina Home Stay for their loving care of their mother.
