Elizabeth Searcy “Lib” Fox, 89, died Saturday at her residence in Garner.
She was a graduate of Oakley High School in Asheville, NC. Lib excelled in basketball while at Oakley, playing forward on two regional high school championship teams.
She had a long career working in the public education field. From childhood, Lib had a longstanding relationship with the Baptist church and has always maintained her Christian belief. She had a strong love to help young girls and was instrumental in establishing the Girl’s Auxiliary at Bethel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, NC.
She loved all kinds of animals from wild deer and squirrels to domestic pets. Lib enjoyed going to yard sales and finding those special deals.
She and her husband Clay moved to Garner in 2003. Her life was centered around her two sons, Ernie and Dean.
At her request, she will be cremated and a private family gathering celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, 11/10/2023 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. This event will be for the immediate family members and closest friends of Lib.
She was preceded in death by a son Captain Ernest Wayne Fox, USCG.
Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Clay Dean Fox; son, Joseph Dean Fox and wife, Carol of Garner; daughter-in-law, Marty Fox; grandchildren, Adena Ross, James Christopher Stancil and Robert Bradford Stancil; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care and support provided by Always Best Care Senior Services; especially her dedicated caregivers, Frances, Donna, Gillian and Teresa.
