Ellen Mae Scanlon

Ellen Mae Scanlon, 75, died on December 17, 2022 in her home in North Carolina. She was a beloved wife, mother of five, and grandmother to five grandchildren. Born in New Haven in 1947 to the late Joseph and Mary Farrell, she was the younger of two children. A longtime resident of Connecticut where she raised her five children, Ellen retired as a drug and alcohol counselor in 2009. Since then, she and her husband, Richard Scanlon, resided in North Carolina where they had family nearby.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Richard Scanlon; her daughters Mary Saucier, Coralie Palmer, and Moreen Watson; her son David Ishikawa; her grandchildren Elizabeth Saucier, Mia Watson, and Kai Watson; and her older brother, Richard Farrell of Hamden, CT. She was predeceased by her son Carl, and her grandsons Carl Jr. and Brian Saucier.

Ellen was both a maternal nurturer and a passionate firebrand. Both an artist and a healer. A woman who persevered and always found a way to move forward. She will be loved and missed by many.

Services of remembrance will be scheduled at the family’s convenience, to be determined at a later time.
