Eloise Pleasant Stephenson

July 19, 1929 — September 1, 2024

ANGIER - Eloise P. Stephenson, 95, of Angier, North Carolina passed away peacefully in hospice care at home and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024. She is survived by her three sons, Franklin (Susan), Phil (Angela), and Vann (Lynn).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Artemis Kirk Pleasant and Katherine Stephenson Pleasant; her husband of 74 years and the love of her life, Dwight J. Stephenson in 2023; her brothers, Billy R. Pleasant, Graham B. Pleasant, and Steve R. Pleasant.

Eloise loved and adored her family, she especially enjoyed and delighted in her seven grandchildren, Michelle, Jamie, Drew, Kyle, Nathan, Lauren, and Kirk, and her eleven great grandchildren, Emma, Elle, Jacob, Audrey, Sadie, Lane, Bailey, Annabelle, Luke, Kennedy, and Stella.

Eloise met the love of her life, Dwight, while she was a senior in high school. They were engaged a year later in 1948 and married 3 months later that same year. Eloise graduated from Greensboro Women’s College. She was a homemaker, but also worked side by side with Dwight on the family farm. In later years, she assisted with the family home building business. She and Dwight were a true love story and could always be found together. She supported him in everything that they did. You would often see them sitting together side by side at local restaurants like Chick-fil-a, which was one of their favorites.

Eloise was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all those who knew her. She loved her husband, Dwight, more than life itself. They built an amazing life together raising three boys and building a legacy to pass down for generations. Eloise was known for her servant’s heart as she spent countless hours caring for several family members as they aged. She enjoyed summer visits from her family over the years which included exploring the family farm and picking vegetables and fruit from the garden. Something she cherished most about family visits was the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You would undoubtedly find her baking them cookies, giving the best back rubs, and dressing up her granddaughters and great-granddaughters in her wedding dress and other party dresses for tea parties. She always told her granddaughters that they must have come from the “Pretty Girl’s Station.” She enjoyed cooking, baking, and hosting many family gatherings, especially around the holidays.

Eloise was very active in her community. She generously gave her time cooking food for the elderly or delivering food for the Meals on Wheels program in Angier. Eloise, with Dwight by her side, was an active member of the Angier Senior Citizens where they did a lot of traveling. She had a strong faith and attended Plainview Presbyterian Church for years where she played the organ and assisted with the music department. Following her time at Plainview, she moved her membership to her beloved Angier Baptist Church until her passing. She also sang in the choir, was an active member of her Sunday school class, served on various committees, and participated in many other women’s groups in the church.

The Stephenson family would like to extend a special note of appreciation and thanks to the devoted ladies that provided care for our loved one in the home. You all have been a special blessing, and we are grateful for all you did over the last five years.

A visitation is planned for 9:30-10:45 am, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Angier Baptist Church, Angier NC, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am at the church. A graveside service will follow the funeral at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier, NC. Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Angier.
