Elsie Bagwell Smith

Elsie Smith passed away on Tuesday evening at the Transitions LifeCare Hospice Center following a brief stay at UNC Hospital.Elsie was one of eleven children born to John and Eva Bagwell of Garner and was the last surviving sibling. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Pearce and later by her second husband, Clarence Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Pearce Hearne, who steadfastly demonstrated her love and devotion to her mothers care.Heartfelt appreciation goes to Jo Dokkens and Dee Roberts whose care for Elsie allowed her to remain in the comfort of her home. Elsie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Elsie was plainspoken in her words and generous in her actions. She spent her professional years working at Nowells Clothing Store and later at Montaldos. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 50 years.A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
