Emma Jane Hagwood

Emma Jane Stallings Hagwood passed away after a long period of illness, on October 9, 2022, at home surrounded by family. She spent her younger years in Roanoke Rapids, and settled into adulthood in Raleigh where she met and married Fred Hagwood.

As a young adult she worked as a hairdresser, and later when her children were older, she was a teacher’s assistant at Vance Elementary School. Emma loved children (especially her grandchildren!), traveling, decorating for the holidays and planning family gatherings.

Emma is survived by her husband Fred Hagwood, who dedicated the last few years to caring for her. She is also survived by her two sons Chris Hagwood and wife Stacie, and Paul Hagwood. She had five grandchildren who brought great meaning to her life: Alex Hagwood, Jamie Hagwood, Jupiter Hagwood, Connor Hagwood and Caitlin Hagwood. She was especially close to her nieces, Susan Ballard Shostak and Michelle Liljedahl, who were as much friends as they were family.

The family would like to thank Melissa Moody, as well, who could not have been a better friend and caregiver to Emma in her last few years.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 14, 2022, at 1:00pm in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Montlawn Memorial Park immediately following. Family will receive friends from 12:00-12:50pm at the funeral home, prior to the service.
