Ersie A. Matthews

Ersie Anderson Matthews, 90, died Tuesday. Born in Harnett County, he was the son of the late Bright and Lillie Hall Matthews. He was the founder of Matthew’s Sanitation Company.   Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Catawba Springs Christian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Josie Guins Matthews; daughters, Barbara Williams of Charlotte, Sheila Pierce and husband, Jeff and Susan Vaughn and husband, Ruffin, all of Apex; sons, Donald Matthews and wife, Vicky of Apex and Dwight Matthews and wife, Joy of Raleigh; daughter-in-law, Paige Matthews of Garner; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Matthews and grandson, Eric Williams. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Memorial contributions may be made to Catawba Springs Christian Church, 6801 Ten-Ten Road, Apex, NC 27539.
