Ervin Wells, Sr.

February 25, 1925 — December 14, 2022

Ervin Wells Sr., 97, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2022 in Garner NC. He was born in Raleigh, NC on February 25, 1925 to the late Lillie Hodge Wells and Louis Ernest Wooten, Sr. His childhood was spent in the Smokey Hollow neighborhood of Raleigh and he attended Hugh Morson High school. Shortly after the U.S. entered WWII he enlisted, at the age of 17, in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the U.S.’s Pacific Theatre Campaign from December 1942 until November 1945 seeing combat action in Okinawa, and The Ryukyu Islands. Upon returning home from the War, he worked various jobs before settling on a career in the food cafeteria industry. His work career lead to his managing cafeterias throughout the Southeastern U.S. including locations for S&S Cafeterias and K&W Cafeterias, including both the Cameron Village location and the North Hills location. He retired and moved back to Raleigh, NC and opened a bakery and held various other jobs in the food industry. He eventually settled in Garner, NC.


He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jeffery Jon Paul, eleven sisters and nine brothers. He is survived by his wife, Edna Wells, children: Ervin Wells, Jr (Patricia), Walter Wells (Cathy), Melinda Guiher (Bill), Jenny Madorsky (Jordan), Jim Wells (Todd), Leonard Wells (Joy), Edward Wells (Clara). Step-sons: William Blake and Chuck Blake. Grandchildren: Kristina Lewis, Christy Funderburk (Billy), Adam Wells, Cody Wells,, Josh Abell, Heather Sidelman (John), Carrie Falcone (Nick), Leslie Madorsky, Kelly Madorsky, (Taylor) . Great-Grandchildren: Kylie Lewis, Cameron Lewis, Dixon Funderburk, Daniel Moore, Taylor Crowley, Ryliegh Wisdom, Paulie Falcone.


Visitation will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.


There will be a graveside service, with military honors, at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC on December 21, 2022 at 12:00pm.


In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Transitions Hospice Care, at 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to a charity of your choice.
