Eugene Hoke Mitchiner

June 16, 1948 — April 13, 2020

Eugene Hoke Mitchiner, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on April 13, 2020 at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Hoke Mitchiner and Mabel Wrenn Mitchiner, and his wife, Linda Jo Paylor Mitchiner. He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Mitchiner Lucas, son-in-law Jonathan Lucas, and grandson Jaxon Lucas, all of Raleigh. He is also survived by brothers Dwane Mitchiner of Garner and Calvin Mitchiner (Shelley) of Durham, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Hoke was born and raised in Garner, NC. He graduated from Garner High School in 1966 and studied business at NC State University. As a young man, Hoke was an Eagle Scout and sang in the church choir and quartet. He was a hard worker on his family’s farm and with the family’s trucking business. As an adult, Hoke was known as a great businessman and very often a “workaholic”. Over the years he managed Yamaha of Raleigh, owned many convenience stores, automobile dealerships, a catering company, and more. He also loved making and selling his “famous” Hoke’s BBQ Sauce. Working was a hobby for Hoke, but he also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and riding his motorcycle. He was a classic example of someone who worked hard and played hard. He had a huge heart and personality that you could not easily forget. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Due to current circumstances, there will be a private graveside service. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life Party sometime in the future. Hoke will lie in state at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Wednesday. The family will not be there for visitation.
