RALEIGH - Eva Ruff Elmore, 87, of Raleigh, died Monday, May 23rd at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center. Born in Saluda, South Carolina on July 23, 1934, Eva was the daughter of Edgar Thomas Ruff and Jeanette Wertz Ruff. The family lived in Saluda, Monks Corner, South Carolina and Monroe, North Carolina where she graduated from Benton Heights High School in 1952. Eva married the love of her life, Oscar Allen Elmore, on August 22, 1954. They moved to Raleigh where he practiced Pharmacy at Northside Pharmacy for 43 years prior to his death in 2013. After the birth of two sons, Dale in 1955 and Reid in 1958, Eva became the first Business Manager at Mayview Convalescent Center, serving there for eleven years. She then became the manager of Finance and Accounting at Atlantic States Bankcard Association and worked there until she retired in 1989. Eva enjoyed serving others and did volunteer work for several organizations. She was a member of the Quota Club of Raleigh, serving multiple terms as President of the local club and as District Governor of Quota International, covering North Carolina and Virginia. Quota’s main purpose was working with and raising funds for the hearing impaired. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 67 years where she served in many capacities including WMU director and the Kitchen Committee Chairman. In the past few years, she enjoyed cooking for her growing family and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. And of course, she never missed a chance to play canasta with her regular card group that she referred to as “the girls.” In addition to Oscar, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Neil Ruff; and sister, Sharon Walton. She is survived by her sons, Allen Dale Elmore (girlfriend, Dee-El Caines) and Thomas Reid Elmore (Wanda), grandchildren, Jason Elmore (Catherine), Allen Elmore (Kara), Alex Elmore and Ashton Jeffreys (Alex); great granddaughters, Lennon Elmore, Sofia Elmore, Emma and Everleigh Jeffreys; sister-in-law, Susie Meadows and husband, Don; and nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation on Thursday, May 26 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 AM Friday, May 27, 2022 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Raleigh, with graveside services to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 2100 Noble Road, Raleigh, NC 27608. Funeral arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh.
