Evelyn Jordan Stange, 93, of Garner passed away peacefully Sunday, August 16 at The Laurels of Forest Glen. She was born on August 1, 1927 in Garner, NC to the late James Paul and Addie Kelly Jordan. She was the first female School Bus Driver in NC. Evelyn was ahead of her time when at age 17 she left Garner on a train to work for the US Army, National Guard at the Pentagon during WWII. She received numerous awards and tributes during her employment of 30 plus years with the National Guard. She retired on March 31, 1988. She was a wonderful hostess to family and friends entertaining them at her home in Fairfax, VA. She was a tour guide for the Washington DC area for everyone. As a world traveler her most favorite destinations were Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Edmund Joseph Stange who passed away March 8, 2013. They were married April 10, 1965. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Dupree and Betsy Huang of Clayton, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. She also was survived by six step-children; Marianne Thrift (Thomas Thrift, deceased), Joseph Stange (Denise Hanson), Patricia Jennings (Joseph), James Stange (Tae), Louise Roberts (Joseph Karl), and Daniel Stange (Patricia); also 16 Step-grandchildren and 17 Step-great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 22 at 11 am at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Garner. Graveside Services will be Friday, August 21 at 10:30 am at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle VA. A very close and dear friend to the Stange family, Carter Wagoner with Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney, WV is handling this service.
