Raleigh- Evelyn L. Finley went to be with our Lord on May 6, 2017 at the age of 92. Born in Bass, Arkansas and raised in the Midwest, she completed high school and felt called to serve her country during WW II. While serving in the Army as a hospital clerical assistant, she met and married, Edward J. Finley. The first years of their marriage, they lived in Shawnee, OK where they began a family with the birth of a son, William E. Finley. Soon they would move to join family in Philadelphia, PA. There another son was born, Michael J. Finley. In 1959, they settled in Raleigh. Evelyn worked more than 20 years with the State of NC as a statistician, retiring in 1982. During the past year, Evelyn found much joy in her home at Brookdale Senior Living where she made many dear friends. Evelyn was a charter member of College View Church of God. She was admired by her church family for her strength, dedication, and leadership. Her faith and love for the Lord never wavered even as she suffered many losses, especially those of her two sons. She was a wonderful example of a good and faithful servant. She will be sorely missed by her loving family but will forever remain in our hearts. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Finley, her sons, William “Bill” Finley and Michael Finley. She is survived by her daughters-in-law Vicki and Candace Finley, her grandsons, Kyle, Mark and wife, Becky, Scott and wife, Nicole, and great grandsons, Blake and Chase. A private family service will be held in the coming days to celebrate her going home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Transitions Life Care or the charity of your choice.
