Evelyn M. Byrd

APEX – Evelyn Matthews Byrd, 84, passed away Friday. Born in Angier, North Carolina on October 31, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Cora Matthews. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. The burial will follow at Kennebec Baptist Church Cemetery, Angier. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Rev. Fred A. Byrd. She is survived by her three sons, Tim Byrd, Tom Byrd, and Tony Byrd; one daughter, Tina Johnson; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 54 foster children. The family wishes to thank the staff at Senter’s Rest Home for their devoted care for her during this past year.
