Evelyn Massengale Poole

Evelyn Massengale Poole, 71, of Garner passed away February 2, 2018 from lung cancer and congestive heart failure at Transitions Life Care Hospice in Raleigh. She was born in Raleigh and reared in Henderson, NC and was the daughter of the late William Arthur Massengale and Pattie Conner Massengale. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry Edward Poole in 2017 and niece Deborah Green Nystrom. Evelyn retired from the State Bureau of Investigation where she worked as a fraud investigator for many years. She loved to travel especially to the Caribbean. Maho Bay at St. John’s Island was a special place for Larry and her. She even named her dog, Maho. She also enjoyed the excitement of Las Vegas and traveling with friends. Evelyn loved butterflies. They were everywhere in her home! The walls, in trees, on the furniture and even some dishes. Think of her each time you see a butterfly. Evelyn is survived by her sister, Janice Starnowski and husband, Jerry; Niece, Kristen Starnowski Barnes and husband, Josh; Nephews, Matthews Starnowski, John Starnowski and wife, Suzanne and Luke Starnowski. Special thanks to Transitions Life Care and to angel friend, Anfesa Matthews who freely provided solace and a true level of friendship for many months. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
