Evelyn "Teeny" Stewart Upchurch

LILLINGTON – Evelyn “Teeny” Stewart Upchurch, 95, passed away at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington on Sunday. Born in Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Centhy Stewart, Sr., and Ethel Avery Stewart.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 29th at Pleasant Union Christian Church, Lillington. Burial will follow at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 pm at the church.

“Teeny” was an active member of Pleasant Union Christian Church, serving in the past as treasurer, teacher, and class officer. She was very civic-minded and participated in many functions. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, a farmer, and she also worked with the USDA in Lillington for twenty-two years. She lovingly cared for her husband for many years before his death in 2004.

She is survived by her children, Larry C. Upchurch (Joan) of Lillington, Annette Daugherty of New Bern, Susan Mellott (Brent) of Chapel Hill, and Beth Upchurch (Russell) of Hillsborough; sister, Jane Verster (Frank) of Apex; grandchildren, Stewart Upchurch of Lillington, Kimberly Berry (Travis) of Virginia Beach, VA, Ruth Scott (Lonnie) of Lillington, Kara Barber (Terry) of Fuquay-Varina, Travis Mellott (April) of Fuquay-Varina, Noah Upchurch of Salisbury, Seth Upchurch of Hillsborough, Matthew Ropchak (Amanda) of Eden Prairie, MN, Samantha Pech (Andy) of Stevens Point, WI; great-grandchildren, Emily Beck (Brian) of Fredericksburg, VA, Alan Upchurch of Clayton, Annabelle Scott of Lillington, Logan Wood, Rebecca Duke, Hunter Mellott, Ethan Mellott, Violet Mellott, all of Fuquay-Varina, Kate Ropchak and Alaina Ropchak, both of Eden Prairie, MN, Emma Pech and Quinn Pech of Stevens Point, WI; grandson-in-law, Robert Goss of Fulshear, TX; great-great-grandchildren, Raleigh Beck and Jackson Beck; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Norcott Ray Upchurch; siblings, Dorothy Penny, Malcolm Centhy Stewart, Jr., Anthony “Tony” Stewart, Grace Penny, Franklin Stewart, and Camellia Ann Stewart; one granddaughter, Benta Goss.
