RALEIGH- Our Sweet MamaEvelyn Spivey, also known as Mrs. Evelyn, age 89, passed away Monday morning, June 29, 2015. We knew her as Mom, Mama, Gram, Little GiGi, and Grandma. She was a good woman - good wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and loved her family. Mom was a hard worker all her life, whether on the farm in the tobacco field, in the office at Kip Dell Homes, or at home tending the family or the garden. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker and would always try to feed visitors. She was a creative person and successfully tried her hand at sewing, calligraphy, quilting, and painting. She loved her garden, flowers, going to church, the On the Mend Group at the Senior Center, yard sales and thrift stores, and going out to eat. We remember her singing her favorite hymns, wearing jewelry, dancing to the Statler Brothers, caring for her “babies,” and playing her beloved instruments. Born in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Hersey and Frances Clark Warren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at The Capital Church, 1308 Hwy. 70 W, Garner, NC 27529. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Spivey Pearce and husband, Tim of Garner; son, Jimmy Spivey and wife, Linda of Raleigh; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Our hearts ache and we will miss her sweet smile and gentle spirit. We rejoice knowing she is now totally healed and in the presence of her savior and loved ones. She was preceeded in death by her husband, James Kenneth (J.K.) Spivey, her son Kenneth Eugene (Gene) Spivey, her daughter Scarlet Dawn Eason, and her granddaughter, Hannah Victoria Pearce. She leaves behind her son, James Richard Jimmy) Spivey and wife Linda, and daughter, Lisa Spivey Pearce and husband Tim, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She blessed us with her great attitude and inner strength. Even as her health declined, she perservered and was faithful to the end. She fought a good fight and finished the race strong. The loving care of her family and excellent caretakers, Estele Sandoval, Christy Young, and Molly Stone allowed Mom to enjoy living at home until her last two and a half weeks. The Lord Jesus Christ sustained her for 89 years. We sincerely appreciate the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at Rex Healthcare and Transitions Hospice House for their most excellent and loving care of Mom and us. And to our loving friends and family, thank you for the cards, calls, hugs, texts, food, and comfort during this difficult time. In memory of our sweet Mama, please take the time to remember your own mom, grandma or great-grandma. Visit her, send her a card or flowers, give her a call, and tell her you love her while you can. This life is too short. Memorial contributions may be made to the Garner Senior Center, 205 E. Garner Road, Garner, NC 27529.
