RALEIGH - Everette Jackson Strickland, 87, died Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at his residence. Everette was born in Nash County to the late Robert and Beatrice Strickland. He was in marketing with Gulf Oil for eighteen years and retired as sales manager with United Restaurant Equipment Co. after forty-six years. He was a veteran of the US Army. Everette will be remembered as a faithful follower and servant of Jesus Christ. He was a long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Raleigh, who served his church as a deacon and in many other capacities. He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his wife, family and friends, as well as many people he met along the way. He focused on loving and helping others and encouraged those around him to do the same. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Martine Flynt Strickland; sons, Eddy Taylor and wife, Jackie of Raleigh, and Greg Taylor of Durham; son-in-law, Kile Unterzuber and wife Lianie; grandchildren, Kristen Puryear and husband Charles, Matthew Taylor and Caitlyn Taylor; great-grandchildren, Charles Puryear, III, Taylor Puryear and Jackson Puryear; niece, Jane Finch and husband Harry and family. In addition to his parents, Everette was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Overman Strickland; daughter, Elizabeth Unterzuber; brother, Allen Strickland and wife, Marie; and niece, Sue Strickland. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2021 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park with military honors. Face masks or coverings and standard social distancing procedures are required for those attending the service.
