Faye Lee Samuels

June 26, 1939 — December 4, 2022

Angier, North Carolina - Faye Lee Samuels, 83, of Angier, NC died peacefully at her home on December 4, 2022, with her husband Don by her side. Born June 26, 1939, in Raleigh, NC, she was the daughter of Lester and Ethel Lee. The youngest of four sisters, she grew up in a farming area south of Raleigh, putting her energies into schoolwork, and helping with family farming on weekends and through the summers. She graduated from Garner High School and received scholarships to attend college based on her academic excellence. After completing two years at Wingate Junior College, Faye attended Meredith College in Raleigh, graduating Summa Cum Laude in June of 1961, with a degree in Business. While at Meredith, she met Don Samuels, who was attending NC State University. It was love at first sight for both of them, and they were married on June 2, 1961, just days before her graduation.

Don's military and government service career took them to many places, including Georgia, Bermuda, Hawaii, Illinois, and the Washington, DC area. During those years, Faye was busy both raising her three sons and working professionally in positions in education and health care administration. In 2005, Don and Faye retired to their dream home in Angier, NC, near the site of Faye's childhood home. Faye and Don have always been known for their hospitality and generosity, serving in local churches, hosting neighborhood events, and welcoming people into their homes. Faye was known for her creative cooking, baking, sewing and decorating skills, her beautiful singing voice and piano playing, and her keen intelligence.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents and three older sisters, Marion, Velma, and Helen. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Don, her three sons Donald (Newport News, VA), Brian (North Chesterfield, VA), and Charles (Durham, NC), as well as by daughters-in-law Wendy and Phoebe, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, all of whom miss her dearly. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and neighbors who assisted Don and the family in the care of Faye, especially in the last year of her life.

A memorial service will be held at later date in 2023.
