Garner– Florene Thompson Lucas, 80, passed away at her home on Thursday, February 8, 2018. She was born January 20, 1938 in Whiteville, NC to the late TJ and Myrtle Sellers Thompson. Florene moved from Garner in 1972 and resided in Hope Mills, NC, where she was a successful business owner for over 30 years. After retirement, she made her way back to Garner to be close to her family, where she lived out the rest of her life. The family would like to thank Dr. James Parsons for his extraordinary care and being by our side through this very difficult time. We would also like thank Gloria Taylor with Transitions LifeCare. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Entombment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Survivors include her daughters, Wanda Porter of Raleigh, Pattie Perez and husband, Alan of Wilmington; son, Ray Lucas and wife, Gina of Germantown, TN; brothers, Marvin Thompson and wife, Vicky of Cary, Odell Thompson and wife, Gay of Cary, Therlon Thompson and wife, Mary of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Seth Penny of Raleigh; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Florene was preceded in death by her sister, Nellie Penny. The family will receive friends from 12:00-12:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
