Frances Capps Stephenson

Frances Capps Stephenson, 95, went into the arms of Jesus at her home April 4, 2023. Born in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late James Haywood and Sally Cornelia Capps.

Frances worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company for 20 years and became a plant supervisor and trainer. She met and married Melvin Dudley Bennett of Williamston, NC. Together they had a daughter Melissa Kay. Melvin died in 1960 and a few years later she married Earlie M. Stephenson of Garner. Together they had two sons, Alan and Gary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters. She was the last remaining child.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Melissa Kay Jones and her husband, John Mack of Youngsville, NC; two sons, Alan Kent Stephenson of Surf City, NC and Gary Mack Stephenson of Garner; three grandchildren, Michael Robin Jones and wife, Catrinel of Raleigh, Zachery Taylor Stephenson of Wilmington and Anna Grace Stephenson of Raleigh.

She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Eowyn, Evelyn and Emmet Jones of Michael and Cat Jones.

She attended the First Baptist Church of Garner, where was saved and baptized. Frances was involved in many sports over the years, including dancing on roller skates.

She also enjoyed working a Treasury Drug and Tom Jones Drug Store over the years while playing tennis for 38 years, taking care of two sons, a daughter, husband, and a household.

She delighted in her grandchildren, her flower gardens and tennis, traveling to many tournaments and winning many awards. Later, she had even more joy in her experiences with her dog, Emmy and her great-grandchildren.

Frances was an awesome mom, granny, great-granny; loved to laugh and to talk; and hugs and kisses were always important. She will be greatly missed by many!

Memorial services will be Saturday, April 22 at 11 AM at Bryan Lee Funeral Home Chapel- Garner.

The family will receive friends and relatives briefly following the service in the funeral home.

After the memorial service, the family will meet at the graveside at Hayes Chapel Christian Church, 315 E. Garner Rd., Garner for a private committal service.
