FUQUAY-VARINA – Franklin Lee Boone Sr, 91, passed away on Thursday at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Nash County, he was the son of the late William Vinson Boone and Fannie House Boone.
Frank was born and raised in Nash County. He moved to Fuquay in early 1950. In his first few weeks there he met Mary and it was love at first sight. They were married in July that same year and spent 73 years together.
In 1960 Frank and Mary purchased their first home just south of Fuquay. They made a great team, he built it and she decorated it. They created a beautiful home together and lived there for the rest of their years.
In his early career he honed his knowledge and skills in the electrical and mechanical fields. During the 70s and 80s he also served as volunteer fireman for the Fuquay Varina Fire Department. He was later an instructor of Electrical Installation and Maintenance at Wake Technical Institute for several years. From there he went on to work at Universal Polymers/Guilford Fibers for over 35 years where he was responsible for the oversight of the HVAC systems until his retirement.
He always put his family’s needs and those of others above his own. He was well known for his ability and willingness to fix almost anything, from a leaky sink to a faulty scoreboard. He was an avid reader, including on many technical topics which served him to become known as the man who could, and would fix just about anything.
Frank loved his family deeply. Their home was the center of countless happy holiday gatherings that created many fond memories for all. He also loved his Grandchildren, and they were always welcome for a visit or overnight stay. The beach was also a special place for Frank, from camping on the beach in the early days to having his own beach house. He loved fishing and his Grady White boat. Frank also loved animals and had many pets over the years but none more special his dog and best friend Buddy.
The family would also like to acknowledge Diane Quick and other caregivers whose loving care and support have meant the world to our family. Also, a special thank you to Piney Grove Baptist Church and especially Grace Sunday School Class for their love and support of Frank and Mary.
He loved his church and church family at Piney Grove Baptist where he and Mary were faithful members. Frank was a very special man to everyone that knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.
