Fred Simmons Hodge, 86, formerly of Kinston, passed away on October 28, 2018. Mr. Hodge was born on February 3, 1932 in Bassett, Virginia to the late John Wilson Hodge and Ioda Elizabeth Hodge. He graduated from Warwick High School, in Morrison, Va in 1950 and then went on to serve in the US Army and fought in the Korean War. After returning from Korea, he graduated from Elon College in 1956 with degrees in history and accounting. After graduating from Elon, he married Anne Straughan Hodge. They lived in Asheboro and then Burlington, NC. They moved to Kinston in 1972 and stayed there for the remainder of their life together. Fred and Anne were married 56 years before her death in 2012. Although he started his career in accounting in the textile industry, Mr. Hodge spent most of his career as a salesperson for Jordan Graphics. After his retirement from Jordan Graphics, he formed Fred Hodge Business Forms. Even though Fred was a proud graduate of Elon College, he was a lifelong East Carolina fan. He was member of First Presbyterian Church. He is predeceased by his wife Anne. He is survived by his children, LouAnne Hodge of Raleigh, Fred Simmons Hodge and wife, Lisa, of Greenville, and Julia Hodge Cowlbeck and husband, Tucker, of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Jessica Hager Lombardo and her husband Philip Lombardo of Myrtle Beach, SC, Andrew Grayson Hager of Garner, Johnathan Logan Hodge of Greenville, and Anne Straughan Cowlbeck of Raleigh; He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staffs of Macgregor Downs Nursing Home in Greenville, NC and Hillcrest Nursing Home in Raleigh, NC as well as Transitions Life Care in Raleigh. A memorial service will be held on Friday November 2, 2018 at 1:30 at First Presbyterian Church in Kinston, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden fund or to Kinston Lenoir County SPCA. Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee funeral home of Raleigh.
