Frederick Lewis Armentrout

August 4, 1928 — December 17, 2023

Frederick Lewis Armentrout, 95, of Fuquay-Varina, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, at Southpoint Hospice Care in Durham, NC. Fred was born on August 4, 1928, to the late Clyde and Armilda Armentrout in Covington, Virginia. He grew up on Potts Creek and married Velma Mae Armentrout on August 28, 1952. They were married for 67 years. Fred served in the Army during the Korean War from1951-1952 and was honorably discharged due to an injury. He worked for Hercules, Inc. in Covington prior to his transfer to Research Triangle Park, NC in 1967. They moved to Cary and live on Crest Road for almost 40 years. While in Cary, he worked for Mallard Mechanical and Tipper Tie Inc. until he retired in 1992. They moved to Fuquay-Varina, NC in August 2005.


Fred is survived by a son, Rickie Armentrout and wife Melissa of Angier; daughter, Vickie Lucas and husband Joey of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Christian Armentrout (Amanda) of Zebulon, Nichole Armentrout of Clayton, Megan and Hunter Lucas, and Corey Shultz of Pittsboro; great-grandchildren, Ronnie and Sophia Mullins of Clayton, and Easton Armentrout of Zebulon; nephew, Mike Paxton of Sweet Springs, West Virginia; nieces, Nelda Bowles (Carl) of Morganton, June McCoroy (Keith) of Cary, and Linda Messer (Charles) of Wytheville, VA; special friend, Pauline Knick of Covington, VA.


Fred was predeceased by his wife Velma in 2019, and his dachshund Casey, brother, James Allen Armentrout, and sister, Thelma Bowers of Covington, Virginia.


A graveside service will be held on December 20, 2023 at 1:30pm at Angier Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Angier, NC. Pastor Josh Brown of Restoration Church in Willow Springs, NC will be officiating. Visitation will be 12:00-1:00pm, prior to the service, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Angier, NC.


The family would like to thank Gary and Pam Stewart, Fred’s neighbors, for keeping a close eye on him and for their love and support while he lived alone. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local VFW or animal shelter.
