RALEIGH – Garner Flowers Andrews, 86, of Raleigh, NC passed away at home on Saturday, September 24, 2022 after a battle with Lewy-Bodies Dementia.
Garner was born in Johnston County on September 29, 1935 to Arlis and Henrietta Andrews. Garner was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice Gayle Andrews, his daughter, Gayle Carter (Donald), sons Andy Andrews (Paige) and Jeff Andrews (Maggie); grandchildren, Brittany Weathersbee (Ryan), Brooks Carter (Christina), Mackenzie Andrews and Haylee Andrews; great grandchildren, Paisley, Camden, Everly, Emersyn and Carter; sister, Peggy Bunn; sister-in-law Ann Dyson (Hugh) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Garner served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He worked for nearly 50 years at NC Equipment Company in Raleigh and retired from Liebheer USA.
He was a man of faith, loved flowers, fishing and hummingbirds. He was a sports fan, especially NC State sports. He had participated in a Lewy Body study the past 4 years and was proud to donate his brain to help find a cure for this terrible disease.
Garner was a loving husband, awesome dad, granddad, and great granddad and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday at his home at 1430 Dowling Rd, Raleigh, NC 27610. The family will receive friends at 4:00pm. A memorial of his life will be at 5:00pm followed by a celebration of his life and his birthday at 6:00pm.
