Gemes Frank Tart

January 15, 1935 — October 23, 2017

GARNER - Gemes Frank Tart, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23rd at his home. Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Colon and Mary McGee Tart.   He graduated from Cleveland School. On February 12, 1955, he married Rachel Grissom. Rachel, his lifelong love, passed away on June 23, 2017. For four months, he grieved her loss and is now reunited with her. They are now hand in hand. Frank was an excellent provider for his wife and three boys.  There were many things he taught his family by example, with compassion being high on the list.   For those that spent time with him, it didnt take long to see his tender heart and the intense love he felt for others. He and Rachel attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Garner.  It is there that they spent many Sunday mornings in addition to other times. Frank loved nothing better than being in the middle of whatever church event was going on and was a work horse during fund raisers. Frank loved being outside and taught his boys and his grandchildren to also take joy in the great outdoors.  He loved to hunt, fish, and trap.  He took advantage of Gods creation.  He was a NY Yankees fan through and through.  He and Rachel could watch a good baseball game for hours at a time. Of course he loved his family most of all. Time spent with them was precious for him, even more so in the four months that Rachel was gone.  He was a loving husband, a good father, a sweet grandfather, and a dear great grandfather.  He will be dearly missed by all of his family. A memorial service will be held Friday, 1:00 pm at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church after the burial. Survivors include his 3 sons, Dexter (Tina), Benny (Karen), Dennis (Tina); grandchildren, Joshua (Ashton), Elizabeth (Sam), Nikki (Westin), Katie (Brent), Ethan, Cody, Hunter, and Bradley; great-grandchildren, Roxanne and Tex; his brothers, Victor and Rayford (Janice). In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ben Lee and his twin who was still born; sister, Mary Ruth Penny; and sister-in–law, Sudie Tart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Garner, NC building fund, 15772 NC 50, Garner, NC 27529.
