Genevieve Johnson Mclean

FUQUAY-VARINA - Genevieve Johnson McLean, 90, passed away at home peacefully with family at her side on November 12, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Herbert Johnson and Lillie Esther Johnson; sister, Marie Johnson Ausley; brothers, James Johnson, Norwood Johnson and Albert Johnson; and loving husband of 65 years, Thomas Neil McLean.

Genevieve was born in Johnston County and soon moved to the Cokesbury Community in Harnett County where she became a permanent resident. Genevieve married Neil and moved to the McLean Homeplace where they enjoyed the country life and farming. Affectionally known as MeMa, Genevieve loved raising her family. She worked hard alongside Neil, his brother Charles, and sister-in law, Virginia managing the farm. She was well known for home cooked meals, loved the farm animals, all kinds of flowers and birds.

She is survived by brothers, Maurice Johnson of Wake County, and Judson Johnson of Wake County; sister, Joyce Creech of Wake County; daughters, Jennie Lynn Butts (Steve) of Fuquay-Varina, Sherrie Lewis (Hugh) of Raleigh; son, Terry Neil McLean (Kristie) of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren, Tabitha Rich of Fuquay-Varina, Stephen Butts II (Lauren) of Fuquay-Varina, Adam Lewis (Lauren) of Wake Forest, Lauren McLean of Fuquay-Varina, Angie Williamson (Eric) of Wake Forest, Rob Lewis (Alicia) of Raleigh; great grandchildren, Mason Butts, Garrett Butts, Wesley Butts, Alisyn Rich, Olivia Rich, Kaylie Williamson, Laynie Williamson, Cullen Lewis, Carson Lewis, and Aiden Lewis.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am at Cokesbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fuquay-Varina, on Thursday, November 16, 2023. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the McLean Farms Nursery and Ice Cream Shop, 5490 River Road, Fuquay-Varina.

In memory of their MeMa, the family is planning to build a memorial flower garden at the McLean Farms Center.
