Donald was born in Raleigh, NC on May 3, 1933 and was 81 years old. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Phelps Moore; sisters, Evelyn Irene Moore Barham, Flora Mae Moore Horton, mother, Pearl Mae Council Moore and father, George Russell Moore. Donald was a retired postal worker, but was best known as the candy man. For more than 40 years, he operated a Cotton Candy/Candy Apple stand at the NC State fair, a family tradition that is still being carried on by his sons. After retirement, he helped his wife, Betty in her tour guide business. For 28 years, Donald and Betty led guided tours all over the United States and Canada. Hundreds of North Carolinians traveled the nation with Donald and Betty and enjoyed their exciting tours. Donald and Betty were devoted members of Bethel Baptist Church in Southport, NC. During the final days of Donald’s life, as cancer slowly drained his body’s energy, Donald prayed to his eternal father to give him the final strength to celebrate Christmas with his family. The blessing of God’s grace and mercy allowed Donald to celebrate his last Christmas morning surrounded by the love of his sons, their wives, his loving granddaughters and nephews. After Donald celebrated Christmas morning with his family on earth, he ascended to his heavenly home to finish celebrating Christmas with his eternal father, his beloved wife, his sisters and his father and mother. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Pauline (Penny) Davis of Twentynine Palms California; sons, Don Moore and wife, Jenny of Garner, NC , Ken Moore and wife, Darlene of Lugoff, SC, Jeff Moore and wife, Sarah of Garner NC; and his 6 granddaughters Cameron, Amber, Danielle, Hannah, Ashlyn Moore and Kristin Moore Riggins and husband, Scott Riggins.
