George "Jackie" Morris

January 23, 1947 — July 10, 2024

CLAYTON – George “Jackie” Morris of Clayton, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024. A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late George Edward and Lois Sanderford Morris, Jr.


George was born in Raleigh, NC and graduated from Garner High School in 1966. George then went to work for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. He retired from the Department of Defense due to his health issues.


George was a staunch Democrat and volunteered on many local and state Democratic campaigns. He was a member of the Democratic Party of North Carolina (NCDP), and the White House Historical Association. He was invited and attended the dedication of the Korean War Veterans Memorial in July 1995 as a VIP member. He was an honored guest and attendee at the Kerry-Edwards Rally in Raleigh, NC on the NC State University campus in 2004.


He was a volunteer for the North Carolina Symphony League and a campaign volunteer to elect Governor Patrick McCrory, the 74th governor of North Carolina. He was a longtime volunteer and supporter of his good friend, retired Wake County Sheriff, Donnie Harrison. George volunteered and campaigned for his re-election on several occasions.


George was an avid traveler and visited most of the states in the US as well as Hawaii and Europe. He loved history and was a walking encyclopedia of facts. He loved his country, politics, and supported our troops that defend our freedom. He loved to read, volunteer, attend church, and spend time with his many friends and relatives.


George had a heart of gold and would help anyone that he could. To know George was to love George. He had a contagious laugh, a quick wit, and he was an avid NC State fan.


He is survived by brother, Lane Morris; cousin and more affectionately known as “sista”, Nancy Lamb; cousin, Melanie Padilla(JP) and her children, Tayler (Lauren) Jakubsen, Andrew Jakubsen and Katherine Jakubsen.


In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Freddie Morris and Sammy Morris.


A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 204 Atkinson St. Clayton, NC 27520. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Bagwell Family Cemetery, 5898 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610.


In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health,426 Hospital Rd., Smithfield, NC 27577 or Fellowship Baptist Church, 204 Atkinson St., Clayton, NC 27520.
